  • First and most famous thing is of course – cheese! The majority of Dutch cheeses are semi-hard or hard cheeses
  • Hollandse nieuwe haring - The raw herring fish is typically served with chopped onions, and can be eaten with or without bread
  • Bitterballen - These savory orbs are battered in a crunchy breadcrumb coating and filled with a gooey mixture of chopped beef, beef broth, flour, butter, herbs and spices. They are typically served with mustard for dipping.
  • Kroket. The original Dutch ‘kroket’ is made from beef or veal, but there are many different flavors like chicken satay, shrimps, goulash or even a vegetarian ‘kroket’. 
  • Stroopwafel - This sweet snack is a waffle cookie made from two thin layers of batter with sticky syrup filling in the middle.
 
  • Traditional delftware (usually in blue and white color)
  • Dutch food and drinks. Most of these top food and drink gifts from Amsterdam and the Netherlands won't put a huge dent in your wallet. But delicious cheese, chocolate, beer and cookies are always a hit, no matter what the price!
